I already told you about my American father’s early blunder in French. Well, my Mom had her share of faux pas too. For one, she was never able to let go of her thick French accent. Some would say it was part of her charm. But sometimes, that accent was not so charming…

I remember in particular one winter evening. My Dad’s American friends had come over for supper. When it came time to leave,  a blizzard was hitting town. It was therefore decided they would sleep over, and my mother proceeded to unfold the living room’s sofa bed. She wanted to invite them to help themselves with extra sheets, so she exclaimed cheerily: “Please feel at ‘ome, and take a shit in the closet!
