Word In The (French) News: relaxés

Today’s word comes from the French online paper La Montagne:

Relaxés:

Les habitants des Yourtes...

In French, the verb relaxer /ruh lack say/ usually means to relax.

However in legal jargon relaxer quelqu’un means to discharge someone. The full title reads “Les habitants des yourtes relaxés ce matin par la justice” (Yurts dwellers (were) discharged this morning by justice). In this case, a judge ruled that people who live in yurts were not contravening the law in doing so, as the law forbids caravans, but not tents.
